Whatever Happened, song by Becky C.This is a featured page

This isn’t how I pictured life,
The scores I settled
Weren’t important.
Tears were shed,
And bones were broken.
The dreams we had
Are lying dormant

Whatever happened to the dreamer’s eyes?
When did the heartbreak and the sorrow
Turn the picture books to lies?
Bring death and pain to every ‘morrow

Who let the innocent be punished?
Why were the brave just left to die?
Who struck the fatal blow
And killed this world of mine?

Somewhere along the lines
The promise for a better nation
Slipped away and left behind
Petrol fumes and Central Station
Whatever happened to the open plains?
Whatever happened the carefree days?
Whatever happened to the people
Who would make things stay the same?
Is there a place, I might go?
Where the air is pure enough to breathe.
Tell me and give me hope,
That we can still save my home

Whatever happened to the dreamer’s eyes?
When did the heartbreak and the sorrow
Turn the picture books to lies?
Bring death and pain to every ‘morrow

Who let the innocent be punished?
Why were the brave just left to die?
Who struck the fatal blow
And killed this world of mine?

What happened to Martin Luther King
Back in ’63?
What happened to the people
Who made the Negro free?
What stole the spirit of the wild mustang?
Who clipped the dragons wings,
And pulled its mighty fangs?
When the darkness falls over a bright blue sky
When the clouds pass over the sun
It doesn’t stop me flying high
The rain never harmed anyone
And when- the lightning strikes
When the footprints fade away
When it all seems lost
The earth will spin another day

Whatever happened to the dreamer’s eyes?
When did the heartbreak and the sorrow
Turn the picture books to lies?
Bring death and pain to every ‘morrow

Who let the innocent be punished?
Why were the brave just left to die?
Who struck the fatal blow
And killed this world of mine?

If there’s a hope to save our world
Why doesn’t ev’rybody try?
Why can’t the rich bend down to help the poor,
To staunch the tears the saddened cry?
Why can’t the poor aspire to greatness?
And take what’s rightly theirs
Why does half the world wear velvet,
While their burlap still has tears?
Whatever happened to the good ole days?
‘Cause I remember well,
When no one jumped off buildings
Just to see how fast they fell.
When science was a toothpick
And technology, a fork
When we were happy with the world
Or so, back then, we thought.
Before the giant factories
Took the place of man
And the Industrial Revolution
Left them eating from trash cans
Before all this, the grass was green,
The sky was baby blue
The sea was filled with fish
And of a cleaner hue.
But now the world is falling
To the “genius” of today
The world is wrought by iron bars
And the grass is more like hay

Whatever happened to the dreamer’s eyes?
When did the heartbreak and the sorrow
Turn the picture books to lies?
Bring death and pain to every ‘morrow

Who let the innocent be punished?
Why were the brave just left to die?
Who struck the fatal blow
And killed this world of mine?
